Description
“The nose elicits a smoky, malted scent mixed with apple, vanilla and spices. The taste is full-bodied and exquisitely balanced to deliver a delightful apple and spice combination over a smoky ambience”
This has a strong smoky nose similar to the Laphroag or Lagavulin peated malts, however it does not have the Islay follow through peatiness. The smokiness continues into the mouth with fruits beneath. This one is different to the other Hellyers Road expressions which are malted at the Tasmanian Cascade Brewery, this barley is imported from Scotland. At around the 35 phenols of peat smoke it is similar in strength to some of the Islay malts.
Hellyers Road Single Malt ‘Peated’ has been recognised as the nation’s best at the Malt Whisky Society of Australia Awards for Excellence. It won the award against strong competition from a number of distilleries from around the country.
It was also awarded ‘Silver’ at the Malt Whisky Society of Australia Awards, 2012.
