Towards the end of 2013, Black Bull’s first year of partnering up with the Ecurie Ecosse motor racing team, they invited the racing drivers up to Black Bull in Huntly for a few days and gave them an in-depth whisky and blending education, culminating in a cask sampling session in their warehouse.
From that sampling session, the racing drivers chose their favourite malt whiskies, which included Bladnoch, Glen Moray, Royal Brackla and Springbank, and grain whiskies, which included Cameronbrige and Girvan, they were then blended together to create the Racers Reserve, a 21 Year Old full bodied, rich, throaty whisky.
Nose : Zesty orange peel, plums with a distant smokiness.
Palate : Stewed fruit, fudge tablet, dark chocolate, melted butter and lemon curd.
Finish : Long. An assertive sweetness is unlocked. Some herbal notes – peppermint, then old mahogany and worn leather.
Comment : A highly dynamic and distinct expression of Black Bull.
