Glenisla 37 yr old, Vintage 1977, Signatory Bottling, Single Malt Scotch Whisky

700 ml, 46.1% abv, Scotland (Speyside)

This single cask Signatory bottling of Glenisla is a rare experimental, heavily peated, malt.  Produced using both peated water and peated malt at the Glen Keith Distillery. Although after 37 years on oak the peat has mellowed a bit. Distilled in 1997, and bottled at cask strength in 2015. Cask No 19602, 266 bottles produced, individual bottle numbers.

“At Glen Keith the peating came from peat smoked water which was produced in Stornoway – until the plant there eventually blew up. They then started making a peat smoked water at Glen Keith which was used in the distillery. Some of this was also sent to Japan”  (Hugh Thompson, retired distillery manager at Glen Keith & Strathisla)

Description

“On the nose, a doughy peat leads the way with soft orchard fruit and spice underneath on a bead of malt.  On the taste, peat and smoke lead the way with ripe orchard fruits and spice. The finish is pleasant with the fruit fading slowly.  A true rarity, and quite a treat”
