This special edition of Islay Mist was created in close collaboration with Bodegas Hidalgo La Gitana of Spain, whose vineyards are at the highest altitude of the entire Jerez (Sherry) district. This Islay Mist is a blend of whiskies matured for a minimum of 8 years, gentle Lowland grain, Highland malt and peaty, smoky, Islay malt whisky from Laphroaig. After blending the whisky is matured for a further 6 months in Amontillado casks. The casks used are intensely flavoured solera butts infused for many years with premium Amontillado Napoleon. (the ‘Napoleon’ part of the name ?, well that dates back to the days when Bodega Hidalo made sherry for Napoleon’s French soldiers)
Nose : Elegant peat smoke and seabreeze saltiness wrapped delicately in rich Amontillado fruitiness.
Palate : Mature richness balanced with peaty vibrancy surrounded by graceful layers of early autumn orchard fruits.
Finish : Nectarous fruits mingling with peat smoke by the sea in long lingering finish.
